The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office Communications Division, Central Dispatch, is staffed 24 hours a day; 7 days a week; 365 days a year, with professional dispatchers who are dedicated and trained to handle life-threatening emergencies as well as all non-emergency calls that are received in the dispatch center. The Sheriff currently has staffing levels at 5 full-time dispatchers, 3 supervisors and 1 administrator to assist the residents of Mercer County, should they find it necessary to contact Central Dispatch for any emergency or non-emergency assistance.  This multi-tasking job is not an easy job and takes a skilled, dedicated person to remain in Communication for long careers.  Our dispatchers have over 80 years of combined service to the citizens of Mercer County.

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers receive calls and dispatches for the Sheriff’s Office, as well as four (4) Police agencies, four (4) Life Squads and ten (10) Fire Stations located in Mercer County.  All 9-1-1 calls throughout Mercer County, both land line and cellular are answered at Mercer County Sheriff's Office Central Dispatch.

One of the most important roles of the dispatcher is maintaining radio contact with Deputies, Officers and emergency responders on the scene of an incident.

Dispatchers are the “life-line” to the Deputies, Officers and emergency responders. Dispatchers are also responsible for contacting road crews throughout the County to notify them of road conditions in bad weather or for a repair. They also call electric, phone and gas companies for damaged poles or lines resulting from accidents or to turn off service at a residence due to a fire.

Dispatchers have the responsibility of the Ohio LEADS (Law Enforcement Automated Data System) to provide immediate response to law enforcement requests for driver’s license or vehicle license information and checking to make sure the suspect is not wanted by any other agency. Dispatchers also enter stolen items, vehicles, license plates, missing persons, wanted persons, protection orders, etc. in the system every day.

Mercer County Sheriffs Office Central Dispatch also provides various levels of service to the Mercer County Common Pleas Court, Probate/Juvenile Court, Celina Municipal Court and State Probation and Parole officers.  Many social services also have primary contact with this office, including Children's Services, Victim's Services, American Red Cross and Mental Health agencies. We are also the “after hours” contact for many of the County Offices. Mercer County schools are also serviced with severe weather and road warning notification.
